Monochromatic Bedrooms

Have you ever been so passionate about something that you want to immerse your entire being in it? It's okay if you answered "Yes." I, personally, don't see anything wrong with having a little bit of an obsessive personality. It is our passions that make us who we are, after all. So, maybe it's a hobby, or your career, or a new relationship... Or, if you're anything like me, maybe it's just a color you cannot get enough of.

I know this feeling all too well, trust me. Creating a color palette is usually my first step in designing a space, and sometimes I am in such a mood for green, or blue, or whatever I'm feeling that day, that all my mind can fathom is designing entirely in that color. Using one color scheme actually works surprisingly well (and it's also surprising how easy it is to do).

These are my two main tips for designing monochromatically:

1. Keep the hue, vary the shade.

This is basically a fancy artist way of saying to use one color, but make it lighter and darker.

2. Cut the space with neutrals.

Add in accents of white, black, gray, beige (really any color that doesn't introduce a new color).

It's really much easier to show you than to tell you, so click through some of my favorite monochromatic designs to see (and get inspired) for yourself...
